Emil Alzamora: Sculpture

Afterlife Aftertho // Gympsum, life size // 2006

Emil Alzamora, a sculptor from Peru, born 1975 and studied in Florida State University. When coming across his life size sculptures you are astounded as to how Alzamora has pushed the boundaries of solid structures as well as pushing the proportions of the human body, creating a surrealistic effect.

Alzamora's work is hauntingly disturbing yet thrilling at the same time. What is so haunting about the sculptures is that they are so accurate of the physicality of the human body, then he cleverly distorts it fabricating a sort of nightmare dream. It is true when we view something so close to reality but have the slightest hint of unusual gives us a very strong fear because we don't know what it is or where it comes from.

You can not help but stare at how marvelous his sculptures are. The size alone are astounding. Not to mention the fluidity and organic shapes that he entails when dealing with a solid medium. You can not help but think as to how much pain you would inflict on yourself if you pulled on of these poses. Alzamora captures that pain, emotion and disturbing natures as to what would go on in nightmares or some sort of supernatural world.

See more of his works on his official website, here.

I apologize for my lack of updates as well as my decreased ability to write properly.
More shall be coming soon!
