Linnea Strid: Painting

Tear Me Apart // Oil on Plywood 28 x 30 cm // 2011
Linnea Strid, a Swedish female artist who has the most stunning portfolio illustrating the fluidity and transparency of water combined with human emotions and expressions.

>>>>> This is photorealism at its best. Everyone knows that painting something that is transparent is not as easy as it seems. You have to account in for so many factors it makes my brain hurt just thinking about it. Strid also has paintings replicating photographs of the daily life (hanging out with friends, playing xbox etc,) which also exhibit her great understanding of the anatomy, lighting, angles and all that technical stuff. But her most intriguing paintings are definitely her plays with liquids crossed with human expression. Two of the most difficult things to imitate (in my opinion) with just the strokes of a brush and paint.

A similar artist which I will be doing a future post on is Alyssa Monks, who works with human expression, and two transparency factors glass and liquids. Photorealism paintings really make you give a double take and wonder how can someone actually replicate physical reality. But what takes it to the next step is mixing that physical reality with the emotional reality. This brings up the topic on art being able to imitate actual "meaning" of life. I feel as though Strid's paintings tell a story of their own, and she does it through her amazing talent. The colors that she uses are very vibrant  and bright, really imitating the qualities of a HD photo. There should be a genre called HD paintings, ha!

Strid's works are very inspiring and motivating to anyone who wishes to master techniques like these. It really makes me want to sit down and try painting a glass of water till I can get it right.

See more of her works (even processes!) on her Flickr account and her Official Website.
